Welcome to 2026, here's hoping 2025 is in the rear view mirror and we're all focussing on what's ahead.
This month, our feature article is about compliance to QGN 35 The Integration of Critical Controls into Principal Hazard Management Plans for Coal Mines in Queensland. QGN 35 explains that the legislative amendments relating to critical controls that commenced on 1 June 2025, with a mandatory one-year transition period requiring all Coal Mine Operators to achieve compliance by 1 June 2026.
Using an example Critical Control Performance Standard as an organising principle, the article illustrates how operations with mature safety management systems could demonstrate how their existing policies, systems, processes and practices would meet the legislative requirements. Any gaps against the requirements could be incorporated into their existing SHMS using their existing gap closure processes.

Personal Note
Thank you for your patience in waiting for our January 2026 newsletter. After a very pleasant and relaxing family holiday, I came down with a severe fever and it took me over a week to get over.
Here's to a successful and productive 2026!
Cheers,
Arthur
